Paula's Journey
Paula’s path to becoming a counsellor, ecotherapist, and end-of-life guide was shaped by a combination of personal experiences and a desire to help others through challenging times. In her family, community, and work, she learned quickly that strong ethics for service, problem-solving and action laid the foundations for security, satisfaction, and success. Growing up immersed in the wilds of the North Shore and along B.C.'s precious coast, Paula nurtured a true sense of home and love through experiences with nature. This strong bond of oneness with nature instilled deep qualities of wonder, curiosity, and playfulness. The gifts of seeing the world with fresh eyes and an appreciation of “small n" nature — that which is at our sides, at our feet, and within us — strongly defines Paula and the work she pursues. She holds dear an endeavour to balance experiencing life through humility with the deeper wisdom gained through a life well lived. Through this blend of devotion to both wisdom and wonder, Paula became an advocate for those (and that) without a voice. Over time, she realized that while taking action was crucial, true growth also came from encouraging others to discover their own strengths, passions, and inner wisdom. As Paula continued her journey, she found that balance became the key to navigating the demands of life. While working for her family and serving the community, raising children, and tending to ageing family members, Paula understood that life had so much wisdom to offer. The desire for skills to advocate for growth, meaning, and healing, led her to counselling psychology. This blend of personal and professional growth brought her to explore mind, body and spirit, as inseparable from her environments. Paula’s journey led to her discovery of ecotherapy — recognizing that personal wellness is inseparable from that of the natural world around us. Combining her love of nature with her passion for helping others reconnect with themselves, also meant tending to the natural world. This practice was especially important in her work with children and families: protecting early connections to nature and instilling a devotion to care, as both being educating and healing. A life of service and reciprocity with nature and all that shares this realm, truly reflects Paula’s definition of wellness. Through her studies and experiences, including volunteer work in palliative care and hospice, Paula learned the importance of honouring all realms of life. While death wasn’t openly discussed in her family after the loss of her father, she formed a strong conviction that a life lived merited honour and recognition. This experience, along with the passing of beloved pets and family members, deepened her understanding of grief, the importance of presence, and how death is intertwined with joy and gratitude. Death is a coming home to oneness with the nature within. Today, Paula offers guidance not just through counselling and ecotherapy, but through presence and support during life’s most significant transitions. Her work is about being with you, not doing for you, and creating space for you to explore, heal, and grow in your own time and way.

A Commitment to Service
Service has always been the heartbeat of Paula’s life. From a young age, she understood that community is built not only through grand gestures but also through the quiet, consistent acts of care that connect us to one another. Whether in formal volunteer roles or everyday moments of kindness, Paula’s work is rooted in the belief that service can change lives.
Her contributions have touched three main areas of community life:
(1) Sport and play – inspiring both children and adults to move, explore their capabilities, and embrace a “sport for life” mindset that nurtures physical and emotional well-being.
(2) Environmental stewardship – taking part in restoration projects and championing the preservation of our natural spaces through organizations like Shorekeepers, Streamkeepers, Park Stewards, Stanley Park Ecology, and more informal community-based initiatives to protect and nurture nearby natural habitats.
(3) Support for marginalized individuals – offering compassion, resources, and advocacy for those facing poverty, homelessness, and health challenges, including recent volunteer work at the Lookout Shelter in North Vancouver.
Beyond her formal commitments, Paula quietly walks alongside individuals who have fallen through the cracks of our systems, helping them access the care, dignity, and opportunities they deserve. Her approach is personal and human—rooted in the idea that even the smallest act can create ripples that extend far beyond what we can see.
Through all she does, Paula’s aim is simple yet profound: to help build compassionate, connected communities grounded in understanding, kindness, and a shared reverence for the Earth and each other.

Health is indicated by the extent to which one gives back to community.
